The Regia Marina (Italian for 'Royal Navy'; pronounced [ˈrɛːdʒa maˈriːna]) (RM) or Royal Italian Navy was the navy of the Kingdom of Italy (Regno d'Italia) from 1861 to 1946. In 1946, with the birth of the Italian Republic (Repubblica Italiana), the Regia Marina changed its name to Marina Militare ("Military Navy").

Just a couple of comments. 1) The invasion of Poland was from two sides both Germany and Russia so your introduction is not factually correct and this brings a different context to the "overwhelmed" phrase used in the intro. 2) You may want to use a map showing Poland's borders at start of WWII, the placement of the navy in Gdynia is then better framed in context of geographic realities. Your video showing Gdynia represent post WWII borders so totally non-relevant to pre WWII realities.

Everything changed when Tom Hanks got drafted, after leaving his oyster business to become navy destroyer commander. One should not forget that Tom's killing spree, clearing up whole Atlantic singlehandedly, made Bermuda Triangle to file an official protest note in the UN, for loosing monopoly in ship scrap business.

I know it's late in the game, but I am nearly 100% sure that your image in the thumbnail is not the actual captain of whom you are speaking. There are images of him at the War crimes trial and they do not match.

Nice little video, but AUSTRALIA was NOT the flagship of the RAN. There is no such thing as the "flagship of the Navy." That's a Star Trek thing, but not real life. A flagship is the vessel from which an admiral (aka a flag officer) flies his flag so the fleet knows which ship he's in. So most of the time, a navy will have more than one flagship. And a flagship can by as tiny as the little MTB 102 at Dunkirk.

The 20th Century Russian Navy was most successful with their submarine fleet. Even at its height of power during the Cold War. Soviet subs were by far the biggest threat and in some cases more advanced then NATO subs. Their surface fleet was usually way behind. Even now the Russian Federation has build more green water surface vessels and kept up with sub production.

The Kriegsmarine was a minnow next to the US and Royal Navies. Thats why there is no record of them fighting the Soviet Navy. Most of the escorts for the northern convoys were Royal Navy, not Soviet. The Soviet navy was a largely coastal defence force.

The USS Wahoo, an American submarine operating during WWII in the Pacific, surfaced and machine gunned some 20 lifeboats launched when the American sub torpedoed a Japanese ship. Worse yet, the ship was carrying allied prisoners of war, who were murdered along side the Japanese in the water. In another incident, the same American sub with the same captain surfaced and ran over a life boat from another ship that the Wahoo had torpedoed. The Japanese sailors who were able to swim away before their lifeboat was crushed, were then machine gunned in the water. Here’s a question. Were any of the officers, including the captain, arrested or tried for war crimes? No. They were in fact given promotions and awards handed to them by none other than Chester Nimitz himself. In a separate event, the crew received additional awards by a different high ranking naval officer. What grand hypocrites the allies are.
